About
I'm heyedd — a Sydney-based engineer working across the React / React Native / Node / AWS stack since 2014. I build greenfield products, lead engineering teams, and step into projects that need rescuing. Some of what I've built lives under Past engagements; if you'd like to bring me in for one of your own, the Services page is the place to start.
Services
Five overlapping practices, picked up and dropped down depending on what an engagement needs.
-
Tech lead, architecture & fractional CTO
For teams of 2-6 — tech leadership, architecture decisions, code review culture, and fractional-CTO engagements where you need senior shape without a full-time hire.
-
Website development & hosting
Brochure, content, and marketing sites — Astro / Next.js / static — designed, built, deployed, and hosted end-to-end.
-
SaaS development (Web application)
React, Next.js, or Astro front-ends with thoughtful UX, sensible accessibility defaults, and the right amount of state.
-
Mobile app development
React Native and Expo apps for iOS and Android — including white-label codebases that branch into multiple branded apps.
-
AI & automation
RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, and the unglamorous automation — workflows, scripts, scheduled jobs — that takes routine work off your plate.
-
Full-stack engineering
Node + TypeScript backends, REST and GraphQL APIs, Postgres / MongoDB, deployed on AWS or your cloud of choice.
-
Custom technical work
Framework migrations (Gatsby → Next.js → Astro), legacy code rescue, and stuck projects that need an unbiased pair of hands. Plus other bits and pieces that don't fit a standard service line.
Past engagements
A small slice of recent work. Full list at /work.

If you came from Jekyll or Gatsby, you want a git-based CMS
Why a git-based CMS is the natural successor to Jekyll or Gatsby — your content stays as markdown in the repo, the editor just sits on top. Plus what I found running Decap and Sveltia side-by-side.

My first RAG, part 2: I built generation. One endpoint sang. The other lied about people needing the bathroom.
Week two of the RAG project — added /summarize and /answer on top of retrieval. /summarize was the surprise hit. /answer had a polite refusal problem and then a stranger one. Notes from the workbench.

My first RAG
From zero Python service experience and zero RAG knowledge to a working YouTube transcript retrieval pipeline. The mental shifts, the decisions, and the gotchas that surprised me.
