You can have a website you update yourself without breaking it. I build sites with a CMS where you change the words, photos and articles through simple forms, while the design stays fixed. My preferred CMS is Sveltia CMS. Every change is kept, so any one can be undone, and a change that would break a page never goes live.

The problem

  • In a drag-and-drop builder like Wix or WordPress’s page builders, moving one block can push the page out of shape, often on phones.
  • An update to WordPress or one of its plugins breaks a page you didn’t touch.
  • You’re afraid to change anything, so you pay someone for every typo, or the site goes out of date.

What I build

  • A CMS at your site’s own address, with a form for each kind of content: page text, articles, team members, prices, FAQs. You fill in the form; the design takes care of how it looks.
  • Photos uploaded through the CMS.
  • Drafts. An article can be saved and published later.
  • Saving publishes it. The site updates by itself, usually within a few minutes.
  • A check before anything goes live. If something a page needs is missing, such as a title or a date, the site doesn’t update and the live site stays as it was.
  • Every change is kept, so any earlier version can be put back.

Why I prefer Sveltia CMS

Sveltia CMS is the one I set up unless you need something else.

  • It saves your changes straight into the site’s files. There’s no database behind it to run or keep patched.
  • It handles sites in more than one language well.
  • It’s free and open source, so it adds no monthly fee.

What it doesn’t do

It isn’t a drag-and-drop builder. You change what goes on the page, not the layout. A new kind of page or a change to the design is something I make for you. That’s what keeps your edits from breaking it.

How we start

  1. You tell me what you’ll change most often.
  2. I set up a form for each of those, and build the site around them.
  3. On a call, I show you the CMS and you make your first change.

Can more than one person edit? Yes. Each person signs in with their own account.

Do I need to install anything? No. The CMS runs in your web browser.

Can you move my current site into this? Yes. See moving your website off Wix, Squarespace or WordPress.
