White-labeling a React Native app for several brands
A two-month contract for a gym and fitness group: their existing React Native app, white-labeled so one app serves several brands. Proof of concept first, then one theme per brand across the whole app.
Overview
A gym and fitness group wanted its existing React Native app to serve several brands. One app, one codebase, a different look and feel for each brand.
I did it on a two-month contract in 2022.
What I built
- A proof of concept first, before changing the whole app.
- A theme for each brand: its colors, text, images, component styles and settings, all in one theme object.
- The whole app on that theme. It is a large app, and the theme runs through all of it. Changing one brand key re-skins the entire app.
- Estimates and progress updates. I estimated from the pace of the files already converted, and reported progress regularly.
I delivered it successfully.
